While most games start off with zombies then gain a Battle Royale mode, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is doing things in reverse. A new competitive mode is coming to the title which sees players assume the role of zombies trying to infect the humans.

Announced via aTwitch stream, this mode will be separate to the game's main Battle Royale game mode. It's unknown how many zombies vs humans there will be, whether it will take place on the same island, or how fast the zombies travel, but we do know they will be player controlled.

Melissa Mok, senior partnerships manager for the game, confirmed on Twitter that despite the new mode coming, optimisation is still the number one priority for the devs. The game is infamous for being poorly optimised and while it's gradually improving, many players still get poor performance on their otherwise powerful systems.

In other PUBG news, PlayerUnknown himself took to the Microsoft stage at E3 to announce the game will be coming to Xbox One X on launch and will run at 60fps in 4K.

Will you try out the new zombie mode in PUBG? Let us know in the comments.
