In only a short while since its hit early access debut, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has gone on to sell over three million copies. It made over 11 million in less than a week, acquiring a million sales in just 16 days, showing the survival genre is still going strong on PC.

In way of celebration of this milestone, publisher Bluehole matched all donations up to $100,000 to Gamers Outreach, a charity which provides equipment and software to help children cope with treatment in hospitals. The publisher also supported the same charity through their charity invitational event.

"One of the main reasons we were able to hit this sales milestone is that we have a dedicated community who has helped us refine PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds," says Gang-Seok Kim, CEO of Bluehole. "We felt this Invitational was a great way to give back and are pleased to make this small contribution to the cause."

It's nice to see that Bluehole is giving a little back to the community after the huge success of the battle royale-style survival shooter. Battlegrounds was Steam's number one seller for more than two weeks and found huge success on the streaming service Twitch.

"As fans ourselves, it's inspiring to see the outpouring of support from our fellow gamers. The funds raised during this event will make a tremendous difference for hospitalized children and their families for years to come," says Zach Wigal, founder of Gamers Outreach.

The game has gathered a strong community following in its own right, even with a collection of myths permeating among players that were recently tested by YouTuber DefendTheHouse. These wild experiments confirmed integral information, such as the fact that you can punch people out of cars if you're brave enough, and the essential knowledge that frying pans are impervious to crossbow bolts. So, if you ever feeling like you need more of a challenge you could dazzle foes by deflecting crossbow bolts with a frying pan, which is good to know. You can check out the full video here.

What do you hope to see introduced next in Battlegrounds? A new map, new weapons or vehicles, perhaps a new type of game mode? Let us know in the comments.
